El Ron Prohibido
History
During the 18th century, Spanish ships reached Mexico with barrels of sweet wine. Instead of being sent back empty, these barrels were filled with a distilled cane juice called “Chingirito”. The long voyage back in the prior used sweet wine barrels gave the rum the unique touch: as they journeyed back to Spain the barrels impregnated the Chinguirito rum with aromatic and complex notes that created an excessive drinking habit within the population. Its popularity threatened the Spanish liquor economy, prompting the King of Spain, Felipe V. de Borbón, to ban it. Its production in the New World was criminalised for nearly a century.
Now El Ron Prohibido is making a highly anticipated rum with an unexpected comeback. It has arrived to Europe and the rest of the world coming from Mexico, crossing the borders of the most demanding countries, to offer young and mature people a spirits drink, which has rescued the first and authentic rum recipe from the XVIII century and that will free them of their mental chains. Ron Prohibido dares you to defy your own borders and try a rum from Mexico.
Production
Rum Prohibido is a premium rum produced under a 12 and 15 years solera system. The truly distinctive taste came from the 1st and real rum recipe of the XVIII century, which has been rescued after the prohibition era by Felipe V. “King of Spain” and reflects a sweet and sour flavor, which is acquired through the combination of different blended rums aged in used sweet wine barrels. The resulting blend, is a wide range of flavours and delicious scents.
