THE ILEACH
The brand “The Ileach” from The Vintage Malt Whisky Co. was founded in 1992 by Brian Crook. The two varieties of The Ileach with 40% and at cask strength won the Gold Award at the International Wine & Spirits Competition in 1999.
The cask strength, without naming a distillery, is said to be behind the Scottish single malt “The Ileach” (with the Gaelic name for the inhabitants of Islay) a whisky from the southern part of Islay. The character of the Ileach Cask Strenght has a strong smokiness and a maritime note.
Ileach PEATED ISLAY MALT Islay Single Malt 40% Vol.
Tasting Notes
Nose: A malt that is reminiscent of unripened peat, green grass and comes across as rough. Accompanied by the smell of salt and grass-scented peat.
Taste: Silky and malty. Peatiness, usually only found in blends, is overwhelming here with little oak influence to impart complexity. Aromas of herbs, fruits, bitters and light pepper are also present.
Finish: Grassy and peaty again, oily and very late a touch of seaweed and flavours reminiscent of medicine.
Conclusion: A chance to catch a top malt at a young age.
Ileach PEATED ISLAY Single Malt CASK STRENGTH 58% Vol.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Extremely peaty, strong on the nose, but also gentle, also sweet and fruity, reminiscent of oranges.
Taste: Quite rich, peaty, sweet and oily again. Warm yet mellow, with the unmistakable flavours of the beach.
Conclusion: A typical Islay whisky.
